I posted this in the DCS: A-10C Warthog thread but didn't get any replies, wasn't going to make a thread but meh :p

Been wanting to play flight sims for a while now but found it rather difficult to really give them a good go with keyboard & mouse or a 360 controller due it being twitchy and so on. I am thinking of getting a joystick to give them a good go but obviously don't want to buy something like the X52 in case I don't like them. So just wondering what joystick would be people recommend for a decent price?

I have been looking at the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro and Saitek Cyborg F.L.Y. 5 but not really sure what to look for really.

The Extreme 3D Pro is a excellent choice, I tried the FLY 5 but the 3D Pro had a tighter, springier stick which I preferred to the cheap feel of the Fly 5.

The Fly 5 has a scroll wheel which is handy for trim and a dual throttle which I didn't bother with.

I can also reccomend the Thrustmaster Hotas X and I suppose the T Flight X which is basically the same thing without the throttle. Its a very responsive feeling stick, you can adjust the springiness by hand which is a great feature.

I still think the Extreme 3D is the best less expensive joystick you can buy. Unless you can get a Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 (probably used its not in production anymore), never tried one but a lot of people swear by them and say they're the best joysticks available without spending lots of money.

theres a problem with the drivers on win 7 though, it won't calibrate properly. mines sat here gathering dust.

never had any problems with the drivers on my extreme 3d pro and i use win 7 ultimate 64 bit.

i have happily used it on world of warplanes, wings of prey and warthunder with no problems whatsoever
