i was just sat on my pc when all of a sudden my screens frozes and then went blank, the monitors then came up with the message saying no input found, yet i know my pc was on because i could stilll hear the music playing.

so i restarted my pc thinking it was just a simple gfx clock problem, ie. i had prob set the voltages too low, when i eventually got back to my log on screen i logged in and it came up with a message saying that something from the registry had been recovered, it then asked me about a win 3.x setting, which unfortunately due to my male side i did not read. it took forever to get my pc to fully boot up so i had a desktop and it has now become apparent there is a lot of damage to my system, for start i have lost all of my custom theme, task bar is on 98 style, background is the stock background when i 1st installed MCE, lots of AVG components are not functionaling (email scanner, resident shield and other parts), lots of programs have failed to open and i have no idea whats wrong or what caused this, any help??

Sounds like the registry has become corrupted. I've had it happen to me once or twice.

The only way to fully recover the system is by a re-install of Windows otherwise you'll just keep finding little bits that don't work as they should.

You say you think the voltage was set too low... are you overclocking your processor?

Several things are possible, among them:

  • Sick hardware - PSU, RAM, CPU, mobo - resulting in memory and then disk corruption.
  • Unstable overclock.
  • Dying hard disk.

looks like a re-install is on the cards there is just way too much wrong to even bother trying to save it, may be it hates me because i bought a laptop to replace it just 2 days ago, and whilst it was fine yesterday it has just killed over today. i have had my cpu overclocked for a while but due to the FSB lock on my shuttle i can get very much out of it and my gfx should have been underclocked as i was only on desktop...

most of the parts arent that old, shuttle + 1hd are new a bout a month, cpu, ram and other hd - about 4 months, gfx possibly bit older as it was second hand but that seemed fine uptil now. so i really really hope that it isnt cos of hardware failure that this happened.

Well we have a first class tit here. The tit being Pulse :p

I told him to prime, 6 hours after I told him to do it he does it to do a full load stress on his PSU.

And before he even gets anything 3D going, prime errors.

Well who is the n00b now eh? :p
