i actually never got around to finding out how the samsung 245b is supposed to be, but £380 for the screen, grab a cheapy X2, cheapest gigabyte/asus am2 board you can get, and the most expensive gfx card you can afford.

anyone that says you need a massively good cpu, or even a remotely decent one, for gaming, is wrong. a x2, clocks fine, hits 3Ghz, 2 cores MORE than enough juice for gaming. its all about the gfx card. ditch the sound card for now, not even sure how many games on vista support eax and the xfi properly, and yes you want vista. theres no point getting a top card and ditching the OS that gives you DX10 and the games.

arrgh. knowing what i know now, id say 20" is the sweet spot. i challenge anybody to justify buying a 22" when it uses an inferior panel. especially when you can literally see the dithering it uses to produce colours on the screen - solid colours arent solid, they are a mix of the components of that colour. its very off putting.

Some Sammy 22" 2ms panels use S panels (supposed to be best), Asus also clamed to have best 22" panel (at release(, the 24" panels seem to have 5ms (although its been proven the manu's spec for millisecs can be varied depending when they measured it, like rise or fall of pixel etc, 2ms may be way more).

Any 24" on that budget is going to make you later regret it when your PC spec is not that good, the panel can be upgrades easier and get good money for old one of E Gay, even 15"-19" go for good money, so buy the 22" for now.

correct me if im wrong, but those 22" samsungs (the sm226cw in particular) are still 6 bit panels. you can have a wide range gamut using a 6 bit panel but it just results in dithering and/pr banding. even the 's' panels are still 6bit tn-films.

What about a 19", could i be maybe looking more towards a e6600 and 8800gtx?

Most definitely...you could probably still get that system even if you went for the dell 20 inch 2007wfp.
