Hi guys!

Do I have any kind of warranty on a Xonar which was purchased on the 3 July this year which has borked? In removing the floppy size psu connector on the card, the white housing clip for the connector on the card moved out with it.

I pushed it back to where it was (by sliding it down the 4 pins) but now the computer randomly turns it self off with the card installed.

Can I send it back to Asus now? Or am I past my warranty?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Many thanks in advance!

Tom

Are you incapable of reading the paperwork that came with the card or visiting the asus website? Most hardware comes with at least 1 year warranty.

Why o why didnt I think of that great fountain of all knowledge JoeMama? It does say "Wise Guy" underneath your name...truly you are wise and humble - a blessing to this forum.

I thank you for infinite words of wisdom.

I wouldn't have thought that pulling the plastic housing off and putting it back on again would do enough damage to be the cause of the PC shutting down.

Yer tell me about it. I was surprised myself but I did double check by putting the Xonar in my main rig (which normally uses pro soundcards for audio work) and within 5 minutes of bootup it had turned itself off (just like the other computer with the Xonar installed). Maybe something is now shorting on the card? Who knows! Either way I've contacted Asus - I'm just awaiting a reply from them...

OK just got an email from ASUS. The bog standard one saying (in great english as ever):

"Dear Tom,

Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Service.

My name is Echo and it's my pleasure to help you with your problem.

Please contact with your retailer for check. If the card is faulty, they will arrange RMA service for you. If you could not get any reply from them, please let us know ASAP.
As the card is CID, we are not sure if the service center will accept your RMA request."

Ha the "please contact with your retailer for check" part cracked me up.

Anyhow I called OcUK and the very helpful support guy reckoned my best bet would be to take it to an engineer to see if they could do anything - he also reckoned the card was shorting. OcUK can't do anything for me because I technically caused the damage to the product. So my question is, anybody know of anyplace I can take it to get it repaired? Obviously if I have to pay in the region of £80 its not really worth it but anything less and it prolly is...

Many thanks in advance!

Tom
