What kind of wood is this?

I think you call it laminated or layered plywood but not sure. Also if I needed say 1m^2 of this I assume I'd still have to buy the standard sheet which is probably about 2.5 x 1.5m, in other words I couldn't just get a 1m^2 piece cut, or how does it work.

Looks like plywood to me. Take that piece to B&Q where you’ll be able to compare it to the ply sheets they have in stock.

And get a saw while you’re there. It’s not difficult to cut :D

That is some ugly looking wood, how thick is it? 4-5mm? If so it's probably hardwood ply. Larger B+Q stores will have a cutting service and will cut the sheet to size for free. Standard size is 8 foot by 4 foot or 2440mm by 1220mm.

eeck, plywood isn't cheap so I'm seeing, around £20m^2, I've see it up too £110m^2

Try searching for Lloyds certified (BS1088) marine ply, required for some commercial vessel uses. Uses WBP (water boil proof) glue with layers of mahogany (traditionally) sometimes sapele as they have good rot resistance (finishing beautifully when well varnished!). The cost, and weight of 25mm is a good chunk of my wages per sheet! I think there's also okoume, but haven't used it and the rot resistance isn't graded as well as the other two.
Also, if you want to see an excellent example of rot resistance in wood, google the teak bridges in burma.
