Need a replacement laptop as the screen on mine is dead, and it's years old now.

Is a dell, and within a year of having it the graphics or the screen went, they came out and replaced that.
My mum also has a dell, which has had a hard drive fail and the power adaptor wasn't working correctly, dell sent out replacements.

So on one hand dell are very good at sorting things out, in our experience. But then you could say with the exception of the hdd which was a seagate one if I remember, so not dells fault, a couple of issues between two laptops is good/bad/average idk?

So was looking at a Dell XPS 15 which has;

Intel® Core™ i5-3320M Processor (2.60 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.30 GHz)
4096MB (1x4GB) 1600MHz DDR3
NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 630M 1GB
500GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive + 32GB m-SATA SSD

Will be used for photo editing (photoshop+lightroom) watching movies, listening to music, web browsing etc etc.

I'd get the 3 year warranty for peace of mind also.

It's a mindfield out there for laptops, so was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions other than dell?

What sort of budget are you working to?
May well be worth considering Haswell equipped machine.....

Budget around 1k

Thanks kevpuk, will have a look.
Is there going to be a noticeable difference with the haswell?

Cheers eddyc, did actually read you thread before posting, but noticed you were on the look out for 14". But will have a look see if the offer 15"

Can also be a 17" I don't take it out the house everyday so size isn't a issue.

For around £1k I would seriously consider an Asus N550JV as an option.
Lenovo Y510P perhaps, too...

Haswell is latest generation from Intel. Amongst other things, chips run cooler and use a lot less power, relatively, which - in turn - may continue leading to svelter machines :p
