What laptop would you get for £500

Clearly we can’t mention places and so on, but presume we can talk about brands and models? I’m looking for something compact in terms of size, and would like more than a 12 month waranty.......the limit is £500

What would you go for with a £500 budget ?

The problem I am finding is 'compact in terms of size' and £500 are almost mutually exclusive. The smaller you go the pricier it is, the larger you go the pricier it is, the sweet spot is around 15 inch which IMO is still too large.

Decide on some firm limitations of your requirements and things will be much easier.

I.e how small light does it ned to be? is 12" too small? 15 too large? What power do you need etc

Dell Vostro 1400, if it was me. Compact, able to pack a punch and delivers a very long battery life with 9 cell (6 cell is still very good).
A Vostro 1500 or inspiron 1520 would get you better hardware for you money though. As whitecrook says, you pay a premium for the really small laptops.

Asus Eee PC is an exception to the trend though

Dell D620... mine was £280, Dell wants £600+ for them. Hence why you buy them from second hand sites of an auction style....
