In the need for a laptop just as a backup, watching the odd films mainly netflix, and for the Internet, light photo editing/ writing letters What would you suggest:

Reliable
Screen size no smaller than "15"
SSD with plenty of storage
Not to heavy as will be taking it out of my home a lot.

I thought OC did laptops for general stuff but I see it's only gaming laptops.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you, light photography work on it and just general day to day stuff. The one I like most spec wise is unfortunately 14" with no number pad:

HP 14-dk0008na 14" Laptop includes Office 365 Personal 1-year subscription with 1TB Cloud Storage - Natural Silver

Key Features

    • Lightweight laptop with a 10 hour battery life
    • Full HD screen - for a stunning, clear picture
    • 512GB SSD offers loads of storage & super-fast loading
    • AMD Ryzen 5 processor with 8GB of RAM
    • Includes Office 365 for 1 year and 1TB OneDrive storage
Also, similar spec but a smaller SSD:

DELL Inspiron 15 3000 15.6" AMD Ryzen 5 Laptop - 256 GB SSD, Silver

I wasn't blown away by the screen on the Dell and unfortunately I've not seen th HP in a high Street shop.

I don't know if I'm allowed to post the links with it being a potential competitor even though OCuK don't sell day to day laptops.

Both at £399

Cheers, If you decide on one let us know:)

A certain quctionsite has this for £401.99, and then £20.10 off with PICKME5

Medion Akoya P6685 15.6 Inch Intel i5 8GB RAM 1TB HDD MX150 Gaming Laptop

It's a refurb being sold by a high Street shop that I actually just got a camera from that came to be brand new.

This is insane spec for the money, £599 with £50 off marked price for black Friday event.

HP Pavilion 14-ce3520sa 14" Laptop - Intel® Core™ i7, 512 GB SSD, Silver
  • Intel® Core™ i7-1065G7 Processor
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM / 32 GB Intel® Optane™
  • Storage: 512 GB SSD
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce MX250 4 GB
  • Battery: 10.5hr

But is only 14"
