hi all ive been asked to find a good laptop for me boss he will use it for:

cad work
typeing
3d software work

hes an engineer so uses it for the cnc machines etc.

i dont know the budget exactly but probably around the £1000+/- mark give or take.

i would assume 1gig of ram
good graphic card
17" screen (wide screen)
etc.

any comments will be helpfull thanks.

very good squiffy thats a good spec i like the big screen as me boss did say he wants to go big.

2 gig of ram is good to as cad work is demanding.

Ask him if he'll like 17" or 20", inform him of the weight of the machine, run times etc.
 
If he's doing design-based work, I'd have thought he'd want a higher-resolution over a larger display. The Dell Inspiron 6400s have the option for a 1680x1050 display, and the D820s can have 1920 x 1200. They're both 15.4", a fairly decent size. Doesn't look like Dell's 17" notebook have that resolution though.
 
hes not to sure about what to go for.

it realy will be used for cad work and genarel engineering work.

any inputs are welcome we are at a dead end here realy dont know what to go for.

oh yeah maybe the odd gameing he said hahaha.
