I am pretty close to replacing my Macbook Pro with an iMac 3.06GHz version.

Can any owners of the iMac with the 1TB drive option tell me what model hard disk Apple are using?

I am wondering whether to get the default 320GB drive and update myself with say a Samsung F1.

Thanks

Good luck with replacing the HD in the aluminium iMac.

I've heard it's pretty hard.

I have my 1TB 3.06GHz iMac on order, arriving 11th-14th. I'll tell you which model HD it is when I get it if you've not found out before then. ;)

I'm sure someone will let me know if i'm wrong but my 320Gb hdd in my iMac 2.8Ghz is Hitachi branded, but not sure if they'd have a different brand drive just because it's a 3.06Ghz model.

It may even be a lottery which hard drive you get. Not that it's a problem, they're all made fairly equally these days.

Thanks for the replies.

It could well be a lottery I had'nt thought of that.

Still would be interesting to know :)

It will probably be a lottery because my first MacBook had a Seagate Momentus and after finding the MacBook faulty after about 2 days of using it (faulty GPU), Apple sent me a replacement with a Hitachi drive in it about a week later.

Western Digital, Hitachi, Seagate.. it's luck of the draw I think.
