So i've got a lovely £20 voucher in front of me and i'd like to get (amongst other things) another Mars Volta album. I borrowed 'De-Loused' and love it, so what's next?

Apologies for the lame thread, but i've become very wary of buying second albums. To the extent that i've termed it 'second album syndrome' -- meaning when you find a new band, buy their album and it rocks. Buy another one (whether its newer or older or whatever) and it's generally never as good :( Very annoying! Anyone else have that?

I'll probably have some money left over so recommendations for similar bands is very welcome /*hops on last.fm

I love Frances the Mute, excellent album :)

I'd always recommend a Transatlantic album, Bridge Across Forever as another album - it's more progressive than TMV but it's an absolutely amazing album. Last.fm has tracks from it occasionally on the preview bit but at the mo it looks like they're all from SMPTe. Give Pandora a try too, the songs on the album are Duel With The Devil, Suite Charlotte Pike and Stranger In Your Soul. (all over 15 mins long, there's a 5 minute track, "Bridge Across Forever," in the middle too)

Get Amputechture. Frances the Mute is pants, far too self indulgent and doesn't really go anywhere for a lot of the time.

If you haven't already, you should also really check out At The Drive In :D

Yeah ATDI are ten times the band TMV ever will be.

:o

TMV were never ment to be anything like ATDI therefore you can not compare them in any way.

Deloused is my favourite album, probably ever

De-loused in the Comatorium...

Some brilliant tracks on that album, my personal favourites being, Inertiatic Esp, Roulette Dares and Televators.

edit - someone didn't read the thread properly.

Amputechture > Frances the Mute as a second album to De-loused imo.

I listen to both with my ears so I can rank them according to what my ears think. ATDI are better than TMV, that's not to say that TMV don't have their moments though. Deloused is amazing and Frances the Mute has its moments.
