What media player

A friend has asked me to help him find a media player for playing his collection of avi's/mkv's/xvid's etc. but as there is a lot of options i;m stuck on what to recommend him.

I have mentioned the usual suspects, WDTV, Popcorn hour, Boxee etc but still unsure of what is the best bang for buck media player.

Budget is upto £130

wdtv is half that price and the most recent model will play virually anything at all.
I have yet to encounter an issue with my newest one, bar the fact it likes a net connection when first switched on. Doesn't need it after that.
Much much better than my old wdtv which still happily plays almost all.
