well, i realised that i might want to get a media player as i might be getting a TV soon.

but for now, i need a media player that plays most formats, especially all asian chinese and japanese movies...e.g. RMVB and MKV files (defo. need) on an ..old (fat back) TV...xD

problem is, im not sure if i can connect...like what cables are used? 0.0?

i have a few on my mind right now..
-Asus O!Play HD 1080p HDP-R1 Live Internet Media Streamer
-Western Digital TV Live HD Media Player
-Cyclone Primus Media Player
-Sumvision Cyclone Micro 2 Media Player

so...my budget? dont really know...depends on the player really. if its worth getting then i might spend a lot, but maybe around under £100 range =)

also if i have missed any other great media players out please share =)

I have three devices in the house which are excellent:
Downstairs Sony BDP-370s
Upstairs Sony BDP-370s
Upstairs Viewsonic VMP74

BTW, you're asking in the wrong forum

Forgot to mention I have a Seagate 2TB NAS they connect to.

WD Live connects using HDMI. Note that if you are watching Chinese/Japanese films then subtitles support is pretty basic (no styling and only one subtitle on screen at once, i.e. no overlapping)

How do the Sony things integrate/connect to server (which server, i mean)?

I can NOT read... at all. But I'm leaving this here so you can all ridicule me for being a ****.

I have a couple of WD HD Live TV players and they are pretty good.

I would suggest checking for RM support though, not sure if they do this.

You can connect either via HDMI, component or composite and if you have an old TV you can probably use a a converter to SCART if it has a socket but none of the connections the Live TV supports.

The Live TV has a network port which works fine streaming 40GB BluRay M2TS files over a network (give or take the quality of the network and storage the file is coming from of course ).

I have also had the AC Ryan HD Mini which was also nice, better interface but could not handle streaming such large files. There have been a few updates since I sold mine so it may have got better.

Check in the Home Cinema forum for more info on media players.

+1 for WDTV Live. Purchased one a couple of weeks ago and cant fault it at all. Using 1tb and 1.5tb external drives with it no problem.

I've got a Boxee Box which I'm really happy with, but it's a bit pricey. I'd probably say WDTV Live, thoroughly tested and much-used product. :P

+1 Boxee box. I think its worth the money you pay extra, sure you can get a REVO and put XBMC but the Boxee is a much easier thing to setup and completely family friendly.

The Sony just recognises it on the network - it's amazing and also recognises my PC.
There are also loads of channels that you can get including iPlayer HD, You Tube and there's even a live music channel called Moshpit with some excellent concerts.
It's worth the money for that channel alone.
The Sony has an amazing menu system as shown in the picture.

Below is the Seagate NAS top left and the Sony on the bottom shelf left.
The other stuff is a Sagem PVR, Wii and my Dreambox satellite system.
