What memory do I need

Hi there,

I am planning to build a new PC soon and was wondering what memory I will need. I intend to use the EVGA nForce 680i chipset with a C2D E6600. Now the E6600 appears to have a native FSB of 1066. Does this mean I need PC8500 memory (like the Corsair Dominator Memory) or am i misunderstanding something.

Also What memory other than Corsair supports the EPP feature that the nForce 680i provides?

the fsb is indeed 1066 how ever it is quadpumped (x4) so real fsb is actually 266.

anyway if you donty intend to overclock your cpu then 5300 ram will be fine :) if you want to overclock then 6400 is recommended if youw ant to go mad and take it to the extreme then gethe 8500 :D
 
I do wish to do a modest OC on the E6600. However What I meant by the question was if I brought a lesser memory speed (say PC6400 RAM) would I need to overclock the memory to get it to run at 1066 at 1:1?
 
it dont work like that. at stock if you havent overclock the cpu at all

1:1 would have *** ram running at 533 mhz

if you overclocked to 3gig then 1:1 ram would be 660mhz

with the ratios you divide the fsb of the cpu by the first number then mulitpy it by the second number then you double it.

soo at stock 266mhz

1:1 = 533
4:5 = 667
2:3 = 800

at 3gig using the e6600 you need fsb 330mhz sooo

1:1 = 660mhz
4:5 = 825mhz
2:3 = 990mhz

This will be the first time I go for an overclock and from what I can make out PC8500 will be overkill for my needs.

Lets suppose I get the following set up

BFG nForce 680i Chipset

Intel E6600 Core 2 Duo

2GB of Corsair Dominator PC6400 Memory

What would I need to do to run my E6600 at E6700 Speeds (I will be using an Artic Cooler Pro 7 for the CPU HS).

Sorry for all the questions but even though this will be my second build for a PC I have never overclocked before and when I built my original system (see sig) it was so much easier to work out what was needed then (less choice, 1 type of memory etc).
 
most conroes will overclock easily sooo to get to e6700 speeds more than likely you will just have to change the fsb from 267 to 300 and tahts it. after a certain amount of overclocking it becomes nescesary to tweak the volatges to make it stable.

my e67 went from 2.67 to 3.3ghz with just changing 267 to 330 in fsb option and that was it :D

there are some super knowledgable people on regards to overclocking soo any probs just post a question in overclocking section and they will help :)
