Ok so i've just bought A A8N-E Mobo and a 7800GT to go with my A64 3200. I've got 1 GB of Geil Pc 4000 ultra platinum Installed, and it doesn't like BF2. Would more mem make a differance and if so whats good for the Asus boards.
BF2 plays ok at 1280x1024 all settings on high and 2xAA offline, but when i play online its impossible at that resolution big pauses between 5 and 10 seconds. I have gotta knock it down to 1024x768
What about the G.Skill 2GB DDR HZ PC4000 (2x1GB) CAS3 Dual Channel Kit (F1-4000USU2-2GBHZ) (MY-008-GS) any good with my Mobo. I've gotta ask coz i dont understand this memory thing
It won't be any faster than PC3200 memory if you're not overclocking though.
PC3200 memory is rated at 200MHz (DDR400). PC4000 memory is rated at 250MHz (DDR500)
Your memory runs at the same speed as the HTT of your CPU. When your CPU is running at stock, your HTT speed is 200MHz. Your memory speed is therefore 200MHz. If you run 250MHz (DDR500) memory in your system it will simply underclock itself to 200MHz (DDR400) so it'll run the same speed as PC3200 memory
If you can afford PC4000 memory then I'd get low latency PC3200 memory for the same price as this will provide a performance boost due to the tighter timings. Look at the G.Skill 2GB DDR ZX PC3200 (2x1GB) CAS2 Dual Channel Kit (F1-3200PHU2-2GBZX) (MY-007-GS). This is rated at 2-3-2-5 which is faster than the 3-3-3-8 timings of the PC4000 kit
