What memory?

I’m building a PC for my son using some bits left from my last upgrade as a start

The motherboard is a Asus TUF Gaming B650-Plus WIFI

What memory would be recommended for this board? Nothing too strenuous; home work and gaming on an ultrawide monitor so I’m presuming 16-32GB

The impact of memory speed depends on the CPU, so would need to know that first, but with memory prices as they are the cheapest deal you can get.

We are in a situation where RAM price is ridiculous these days

Ordinarily I would recommend 32GB G-Skill Trident 6000 C30, but that probably costs a fortune now.

I know, it’s for his birthday in October so starting to plan now and hope I can catch an offer or drop in prices

X3D CPUs are less memory sensitive due to their huge cache, so yeah, whatever you can get that's cheap. Within reason, obviously, 4800 for £200 or 6000 for £210, then 6000 is no brainer.

If you can afford it, definitely get 32GB instead.

Most games will run on 16GB, but it can be awkward to manage (got to shut stuff down more often, restart more frequently, etc) and the number of games which want more than 16GB will only grow.
