Basically,

I see these as boards worth buying:

eVGA 680i - Seen some good clocks and good customer support
DFI P965 infinity - Not available, seems the UK market just doesn't care about getting the latest gear in lately.

QuadGT - Available! Great speed and uses holes for the motherboard so could easily mount a NB block onto it.

Seen bad news about the bios and good news. Which to believe? Whats vdroop like on the board?

What specific features do you need?

Would you consider the P5N-E 650i board? It has good BIOS support and is relatively stable.

2x8 SLi if you need it and also 2xIDE :)

QuadGT is a good board but it all depends on how much you're willing to spend. Obviously if you can afford it then the EVGA 680i is a killer of a board.

i'm going to order a QuadGT this week actually with a view to replacing my ECS 680i if it does the business.

better regulation, some droop but nothing like the 680 boards and 1066 strap unlike all/most? other 965 boards.

needs some extra cooling around the pwm area, looking to slap a block there actually + NB/SB ...plenty of room in my U2-UFO for a 2nd loop.

i'm interested in both the 965 and 680 DFI boards too but their distribution channels are terrible in this country lately.

Don't need any specific features, not even SLi.

Don't recomend me Asus boards, ever. vdroop on Asus boards are bigger than the grand canyon. It's only in their P35 deluxe boards have they finally realised that people want the choice of disabling the intel spec vdroop.

Surely a HR-09 mosfet cooler will do the job on the quadGT?

i agree asus = poo

no idea about hr-09 on mosfets be fine as long as it fits properly i guess

if you really don't need SLI i'd avoid 680i, if you really wanted nvidia chipset save money and go 650i. i like my 680i board but if you're not using SLI and don't need the Async memory options it's a bit of a luxury in terms of cost. After seeing the price of your RD600 halve in 8 weeks you're probably not looking to paying over the odds for a board? ;)

Well not too fused about price, I get paid too much :)

RD600 never worked properly as one of the dimms is borked and voltages are whack so looking to buy a board, RMA this and sell it on.

Well as far as the vdroop on the asus P5N board goes it can be pretty much eliminated with a careful pencil mod.

now, you see I don't think that it does have great BIOS support - sure they churn them out out but they don't seem to get any better ....

I have both the P5N-E & the QuadGT & I know which I prefer if you can afford the extra & don't need SLI. I suspect that WJA96 probably agrees.

the quad gt so far for me is great bar two things . 1 update the bios to the -11 (my board from last week was -10) other wise there a good posabilty that windows will refuse to load when usb keyboad and mouse in the bios is set to bios and not os , the bios update fixed this for me , 2nd the sata ports seem very easy to break off i slilghly streched a cable to get to a drive in my tob bay and i came off (i could put it back on but i was in a rush build the rig last week , clocking 2.9ghz out of a e6420 prime stable 3ghz is game stable watercooling it after uni work is done this week

Another happy Quad GT user here, had a p5n-e for a few weeks but it just felt cheap. The Quad has my 6400 @ 3.2 24/7 & is prime stable, it has a switch on the back plate to reset cmos & even has blue fancy lights which I didn't know about till I got it.

I would say wait for the DFI Lanparty UT 680i LT...Only a couple of weeks till it arrives or you can order from a few german sites now for around £175 delivered.
I myself will be waiting for them to hit the uk ( OCUK ) so i have a better ( easier ) RMA service if i ever need it.

You can turn those off in the BIOS though - apparently [ at self]

Yeah my Abit FP-IN9 has red lights... would rather have them off tbh but havnt seen the setting in the bios.

Really? What does it have that your existing ECS doesn't - or do you just fancy a change?

Probable decent quad support. My ECS is the eqv of EVGAs rev1 mobo which dosn't clock quads to well :(.

That must be a bit galling - especially as you had an EVGA and sold it I think. I'ver been lucky enough to have my EVGA modified so I'm not going to complain about them.

Yeah it is tbh. I sold the evga £30 greater than retail but with hindsight it seems I may have gotten the rough end of the stick now. ECS refuse to acknowledge there is a problem with the rev1 boards so it dosn't look likely they will be allowing the rma service evga are. They said if NV will replace then they will but not before. Shame really as mine has been an excellent board for c2d with none of the reported problems but I am getting a little twitchy over quad core now so needs must I guess.
