Slowly making my latest upgrade decisions.

i've got a Asus P5n32-sli Deluxe (non core 2) :(

I want to get a Core 2 DUO E6600, but what core 2 mobo is the best to go for. I've been scouring the forums and there is a overwhelming wealth of info on here and could do with some help if anyone can ?

This is my current setup
Intel Pentium 4 650 [email protected] Socket 775 800mhz 2mb Cache
Asus P5N32-SLI Deluxe
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-5400C4 TwinX (4x512MB)
XFX GEFORCE 7900GTX 256MB DDR3
Creative Soundblaster X-FI Xtreme Music - Retail
Western Digital RAPTOR 36.7GB 10,000rpm 8mb cache
Enermax Liberty 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU
Gigabyte G-Power Pro CPU Cooler

The most popular ones seem to be the ds3 still, or the asus p5b deluxe, but the new nvidia asus p5n-e is very popular...based on the 650i chipset which is basically the same as the 680i apart from it only has 16 pci-e lanes for sli instead of 16 lanes each...but tests have proved there is no real world difference when running in sli, of course, if running just one card, it will still utilise all 16 lanes.

Thanks guys, i've had two SLI motherboard since 2005. The previous being a P5nd2-sli deluxe and have not bought another GFX card. I do intend getting a 8800 GTX. So I may not bother going for another SLI motherboard, although having the option could be handy.

Think i'll have to toss a coin and choose a mobo, otherwise i'll never end up getting one!

Think i'll go for the Asus P5B-Deluxe and an E6600 and keep my current ram and GFX for the time being.

What u reckon ?
:p

P5B and E6600 are not a good combination - get a 975x (like the Intel Bad Axe) or a 680i (or even a 650i) board with the E6600 as the way the memory straps work is a better fit.

I am a Pro Asus person and have just got an E6600 and gone for the P5N32-E SLi nForce 680

Really pleased with it, good layout and just love the BIOS features, some say it's the "Striker" without all the Bells and whistles etc.
I researched and read other post's on here for a board to buy and this one is superb. I don't think it's the fastest out there but, it overclocks well and is stable with the E6600.

Good Luck anyway ( hope this helps ! ) :)

Cheers Tony,

I was looking at getting that one, wish i hung on before I bought my current mobo (Asus P5N32-SLI Deluxe) as it doesn't support the Core 2.

I may go for the P5N32-E SLi nForce 680 with a E6600 then and keep my current ram and GFX card for the time being.

Is there much difference between the P5N32-E SLi nForce 680 and the PLUS mobo ?

The PLUS is a hybrid version with the 650 nb and 570 sb it's been shown to be pretty much the same board otherwise and, possibly runs slightly cooler but,the jury's still out on that.
I went for the 680 version as others found it to be better at higher FSB .
Both seem to be good sellers so, up to you to decide as they are both the same price :)

P5B is the board of choice for the E6600/E6700, and the board of choice for the E6300/E6400 is the DS3. :)
