Limitation - Q6600 that I don't want to upgrade just yet.

Current mobo is ASUS P5N32E SLI though I do not see myself using either SLI or Crossfire. I wish to replace this mobo but what with?

I have another PC with a Q6600 and a seriously crap mobo so that's where the P5N will go.

But what should I get instead?

Good question. Should have thought of that when I posted. Say up to £125 but if there is anything more expensive that I should consider then I'd like to know about it.

System to receive new mobo is used for video editing. Basic spec is Q6600, 8Gb DDR2, Win 7 64 bit, 1Gb nVidia 250, 150GB Raptor system disc, 500GB and 1Tb HDs, BD burner all in an Antec P183.

Thanks again.

EDIT: P5Q boards are getting good notices, but which to go for (bearing in mind that I am not going the SLI or crossfire route) but would like better o'cing of my Q6600.

OK. Looks like I am making progress (famous optomist that I am).

Have narrowed down to either an Asus P5Q SE Plus OR an Asus P5Q SE2.

So I'd really appreciate it if someone could let me know what the difference between them is, and also confirm to me that these are the only two P5Q mobos that do not have either/or SLI and Crossfire, neither of which I need.

Thanks.

Thanks for the input, pastymuncher. Will certainly take a look at that Gigabyte board. :)

Anyone else have any input?

Today is Sunday 10th Jan. I want to order the replacement board by Wednesday at the latest so that I can fit it and be up and running by next weekend, so any further contribution greatly welcomed. :)

You can get the Asus P5q deluxe for that money which is one of the best boards for overclocking the Q6600.......and is very highly rated here........just my 2p worth....

My view on the matter is that unless the MoBo is dieing a death i would'nt bother changing it and even then i'd get a cheap one to tied me though until i could get a i5/i7, wasting big money on a near obselete socket motherboard seems a waste to me.

same as above, unless its misbehaving or dying....but its up to you at the end of the day, some good advise here, no need to repeat it

Thanks to one and all for input so far.

My current thinking: the Gigabyte board GA-EP45-UD3LR0 or (despite its odd location of the power connector) ASUS P5Q SE (Plus or 2 - I still do not know what differentiates those two).

I am very appreciative of comments so far and welcome any last minute arguments to steer me in another direction.

Thanks again :)
