What monitor to buy?!

Hi guys! I've got a dilemma, I'm in the market for a new monitor and don't know what to go for.

The only requirement I've got is that I want an ultrawide (curved if possible), beyond that I'm open to suggestions.

I'm running an i5 4690 with 16gb ram and a EVGA 1070 SC. I use my computer for general stuff, some handbrake encoding and working from home a couple of times a week. I also use it for gaming but am not hardcore by any means, maybe an hour a night, 2 at weekends.

Frist question, 1080p or 1440p? Is it worth getting 1080p now, it feels a little bit long in the tooth??

Next question, would you prioritise resolution of refresh rate?

Ideally I don't want to spend more than £600, but I'd push the budget if there was a good deal to be had.

Would appreciate peoples thoughts.

So I managed to find the Acer XR342CK for £600 and couldnt resist! 1440p and up to 100Hz refresh rate. Should be here on Thurs

Will it do 100Hz? I thought that was the G-Sync only. Still makes a difference though as I tend to set my fps limit to 75 (plenty high enough for me) in games with a higher monitor refresh rate so it always draws frames complete and the load on the GPU is reduced. If that matters to you.

For your use case the 1440 res is more important anyway and the large size will keep you amused for weeks :)

I looked at a couple of reviews that said it would go to 100Hz, but it's not a major issue if it doesn't to be honest as I mainly wanted 1440p and curved over a high refresh rate, 75Hz will be plenty for me..

Quick question, will a DP 1.2 cable be capable of 3440 x 1440 @ (up to) 100Hz?? I think it will be I just want to be sure before ordering a cable.

I have ordered the same monitor, i have a 980ti, so no freesync, but hoping it will run at 75hz, without frame skipping. mines arriving fri

My only concern with it was that the stand looks really deep, so I've ordered a VESA mount from Amazon.

Well it arrived today and first impressions are this thing is amazing! Was suffering a little bit of buyers remorse forking out £600 on a screen but it's well worth it! I've VESA mounted it to my desk as well to save space. I'd post a picture but I can't work out how to!

I've only played Watch Dogs 2 at the min which puts quite a strain on the gpu. Having said that though my 1070 copes well with the Geforce Experience recommended settings, it stays around 65-75fps and when it does dip it doesnt go much below 50fps and even when it does it soon goes back up

What Bcham is asking is are you getting 75Hz (refresh rate in Windows) on the monitor as some Freesync monitors have syncing issues with nVidia GPUs and they only work at 60Hz in the monitor settings.

Oh, right. No issues for me, worked at 75Hz straight out of the box

That's good to know as my brother wants a big screen after seeing my X34 but wouldn't pay the £900+ but would probably stretch to the £600 of the Freesync version.

I would definitely recommend it even after only a few hours use. Productivity wise id never go back to a dual monitor setup
