For gaming a Quad core CPU is whats needed, so that rules out the X6 CPU, and a i5 is faster than a i7(930/950) at games.

why is quad better that 6x silly question but one would assume that having 2 extra cores would mean faster now im confusing myself lol

Because games dont make use of that many cores, they are only just making use of quad cores, and the individual speeds of each core is higher on a quad core cpu than a hex core cpu.

heres an example of the PhenomII X4 965BE cpu vs the 1090T hex core - http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/102?vs=146 look near the bottom at the game scores, the quad does better, despite the 1090T hex core cpu costing nearly £70-80 more, but if you look at the other results that can use the extra cores, then the hex core wins.

what is sandy bridge?

Intels new range of cpu's released this January, which require a new socket 1155 motherboard to fit.

Depends if you decide to go AMD/Intel, or wait for Sandy Bridge etc.

Your best off starting a thread, with a list of bits you need/dont need(speakers/operating system/keybaord/mouse/case etc) and state a price.

also state what this pc is to be used for.

You will then get slammed with specs and pictures of baskets for all sorts of builds.

either start a thread soon, or actually wait for the release of Sandy bridge so we can see if its worth going that route for the extra money/performance gain.
