What new PSU do I need for my system?

I have an Intel E6600 CPU, 2GB memory, 320MB GeForce 8800GTS, one SATA drive, one DVD writer.

Old I know but my Corsair 620w supply has gone pop for the third time! I am not sure how happy they will be with me sending it back, especially as it is now 3 years from purchase (plus the expense of posting to Holland!).

So what wattage do I require and what can I get from OCUK cheapish!

Max consumption of those parts is below 250W so figure it out from that how much chance you have for finding PSU which wouldn't be enough.

Pigeon, if you have had three PSU failures on the trot then it's probably nothing to do with the PSU and perhaps something to do with your system.

Are you using an old case with the PSU mounted at the top? . . . is the case well ventilated and running cool?

I'm using three corsair PSU's (HX520W/HX620W) and they are superb . . . . is your warranty 3 years or 5 years? . . . . can you not send Corsair RMA to a UK address now?

I think the warranty is in date. I'm using an Antec Solo quiet case with the PSU at the top. All were normal at the time! I must say it is 3 failure over 3 years at about a year a PSU!

Heat could be something but the system had been off overnight and quite cool.

When you are faced with a *constant* failure like what you are getting then probability dicates there is more chance the problem lay elsewhere . . . . I can't prove it but I have a hunch that a PSU which is top mounted in a hot case and acts as a system exhaust generally deteriorates a lot quicker than one mounted at the bottom of a cool case . . . .

With respect this is not a budget £30 PSU it cost a lot if money and should have easily been able to cope with my moderate setup. The case while designed for quiet still has good ventilation and a 120mm exhaust fan directly below the PSU!

This is not an advanced or overclocked computer. I am very much a home user these days and will go as far to say that my next box will be pre assembled!

Sorry I am just wound up about it breaking when I needed it. Thanks for you suggestion, with my
replacement PSU I will try with the fans on a bit higher/faster! Apart from the PSU the system has been flawless for me, certainly no issues with overheating, I've not even required an OS reinstall.
