Hi

Currently looking at setting up a NAS to serve 4 windows pcs, xbox 360, PS4 and android tablets, but not sure what route to go down.
At the moment i have a windows share folder on 1 pc but after a hdd failure i had to re rip cds, so thinking of a mirror raid for pics and music with additional dumping ground for less important stuff, i've had a little play with freeNAS and got a CIFS share working okay but i'm very noobie to it and don't have a huge amount of time for learning curve.

What would you folks recommend

been looking at the synology, shame that HP cashbacks expired, but i also came across a d-link dns320 which has a good price point (read cheap ;) )but doesn't offer all the functions of synology. question is if i got the synology and 1 3tb hdd could i add a 2nd 3tb hdd later for a mirrored raid or does it need to be set up in one go.

question regarding the synology, is it possible to run it in a mirror to backup say photos and music then once backed up remove mirrored drive and install another drive non mirrored with movies to share across network then if add to music or pics pop back in mirrored drive and sync, or should i just get the 4 bay one :)

are they quick to transfer over, although i suppose it doesn't really matter too much, how does everyone use theirs? mirrored, jabod, striped?

wouldn't worry about the hijack, think i'd made my mind up by post 8, I did however get freenas working and currently still working as a windows file server, dnla compliant file server and a torrent box :D, so i'll be using that side for me but the synology for everyone else in the house :)
