Morning all. I'm currently thinking of selling my MacBook Pro and coming back to the glorious world of fast windows desktops! Considering i could probably get 900 or so for my laptop I would like a mini portable laptop and a pc within that, or near enough. Probably wait for the HP mini-note.
So budget for me, lets say £700 or so. I don't play PC games really so i don't need a new shiny gfx card, 8800GT will be more than enough for my needs. What i do want though is the fastest windows/general usage experience i can get for my money.
I'm thinking, quad core (q9450 worth it over q6600? anything new on its way?), 4/8gb or RAM (its so cheap atm) a P45 board (as i understand a better made p35 really? no obvious difference other than quality in some cases?) and a decent HDD setup.
I already have 2x500gb and 1x1tb hdd's i can use in the machine, so a big case and capable psu is needed aswell as a mobo that can accomodate them.
The above drives would be purely storage, whats a good fast drive for OS/Apps? 150gb raptor i guess for seek, but doesnt stand up to the new 334gb platters from samsung/WD?
As for a case/psu, i have my eye on the CM 690/Cosmos (if budget allows) and a corsair modular. Although these new Be Quiet! sets on OcUK have caught my eye, love the idea of plugging fans straight into it for neatness really.
This is all as it stands, i probably wont be going through with it until 4-6 weeks time, is anything new and shiny coming in that timescale or shortly after?
Any comments on my general spec up?
