Hi, i would really appreciate a minute of someones time

The story:

I tried to update my asus mb bios - failed midway and left it redundant.

I got a new one (gigabyte ep41-ud3l), installed it and the system didnt post or beep but all the lights came on, fans, hd light etc.

I sent it back and they sent me a new one which i installed today but am having exactly the same problem.

What can i do next - i dont think its the power supply as all fans/lights/mb lights etc are coming on.

Is it the processor? Will a system beep/post or do anything without a working processor?

If i get a new one do you think the system will post?

thank you so much!!

It sounds a coincidence that your BIOS failed to update and now your CPU won't work in another MOBO. My hunch is that it's something else and not the CPU. The cheapest option, if possible, would be to borrow a CPU to test with or you could always pick up the cheapest second hand socket 775 CPU and sell it on.

hmm

yeah but the system now hasnt booted with 3 motherboards? am i correct in saying a system wont post or beep without a working cpu?

ive ordered a new one anyway. i really hope it works!

Either the board you ordered doesn't support the CPU you were using, the PSU is fubared, all the cables aren't plugged in, or the ram isn't seated correctly/is fubar'd.

The earliest BIOS for your board (F4) supports the e6600 (I'm guessing that's the CPU as it's in your sig) so that's not the problem. http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/CPUSupport_Model.aspx?ProductID=3065#anchor_os

All the fans/lights coming on suggest it's not the PSU (though not impossible).

I'd go with one of the latter two suggestions from z0mbi3. Try using only one stick of RAM making sure it's seated correctly.

Have you tried assembling the mobo outside of the case to eliminate the possibilities of a short with the case. Also if the Tuniqs backing plate on properly, again make sure it's not shorting anything on the underside.

Hi,

I am using only one stick of ram and i am no longer using the tuniq, im using the heatsink that came with the processor (e6600)

Ive also taken out the graphics card and get nothing. I have 4 sticks of the ram so i could try all of them to see if any will post but im sceptical.

i havnt tried it out of the case. i can try this maybe? all the cables are plugged in, i went through it thouroughly when i installed!

... in terms of beeps. the motherboard supports hd audio so i have plugged the audio group pin connector into the hd audio socket rather than use the individual audio pin connectors where the pwr, hd, rst pins connect

Remove everything including any other connectors except for the pwr, the CPU and a single RAM stick. Make sure both the 24 pin connector and the 4/8 pin connectors from the PSU are plugged in, then power up. Now if it powers up and just spins the fans with no beeps then remove the 4/8 pin connector and try again.

If you still get nothing then remove the 24 pin PSU connector and then reset the BIOS with the jumper on the mobo. Leave the jumper there for 10-15 seconds, then move the CMOS jumper back to where it was, connect only the 24 pin and try again. Again if nothing then with it still powered on carefully plug in the 4/8 pin connector.

If after all this you get nothing then I give up :)

i managed to make it post.

i connected a power cable to my graphics card and also found out a module of ram was dead, at least im running now!!

thanks everyone who helped.

Does it work in your original MOBO? You might not have needed to buy a replacment.
