Right,

I don't want to leave the Subaru fold, but out of fear for my friends and families lives, I'd rather let them go. Right now, I can't think of anything that could realistically keep up with my STi and give me such satisfaction, apart from an Evo or Skyline. Obviously they're both pretty much as hot property as an STi.

So spec me up guys, up to 11-12k I'd say. Has to be very fast, great cornering ability, good in all weather conditions. Have to be able to tweak it without worrying about breaking it! Has to be able to lug ICT equipment around also. Has to be kinda special too!

Can you tell I don't want to downgrade?

Suggestions please!!

Kosta

After driving absolutely tons of very high performance cars recently (dare i say it, rather higher end than an impreza STI) i would buy an S2000 for that budget.

Bloody brilliant cars, and look great to boot :)

You've got a severe problem

hardly anything for this money is as fast as an evo/scoob

Not unless you want serious headache and big bills from owning high mileage rough examples of performance cars.

*edit* even the S2000 takes 6 to 60 and its high revving nature means it wont feel nearly as fast as the scoob and its big dollop of turbo thrust.

Only problem being I dont think you could fit much equipment into one of those

Sorry Jez, but I've had a go in and against an S2000 and in a straight line my WRX used to beat one (before comments are made, my WRX ran a 13.2 qtr mile so it wasn't slow), so the STi would give it a bit of a pasting. I'm sure they handle fantastic and are a great hoot, but I don't see them up there really. Thanks for the suggestion though.

For the kind of Shuv that an STI scoob gives, you're probably going to be looking at :

I honestly cant think what saloon / estate cars come close to the Scoob apart from ze germans.

The european and japanese entries (Mondeo ST220, Vectra VXR, Mazda 6 MPS, Honda Accord 2.4 Type S) arent in the same league really.

*edit* Supercharged V8 of the S Type R will do

If you can stomach the old man interior :bleh:

Hmm for some reason I don't think I could insure the merc, bmw and jag, but the Audi looks great. 340bhp too. Wonder how it sounds with an exhaust?

Urm why are Monaros so cheap? S3 is a bit meh for me I have to say. Don't get me wrong they can look fantastic, but they're far too expensive for what they are really. Focus RS is wrong wheel drive :D

V8 and the cost of petrol these days me thinks :D

1) its actually an australian car,
2) it wears a vaxhaul badge so depreciates like one
3) it has a big v8 and is a sledge hammer approach to being a sports car so not to everyones taste.

Seriously, even ford knew better than to try and make a performance coupe. The badge just doesnt work in the sector

Works if you want V8 power on a budget though :D

As you haven't given an age, I'm going to say Celica GT4.

Yeah, they're getting on a bit now but are probably just as capable as your Impreza. cymatty's is certainly very capable in both the wet and dry!

Also, can be made to be a little inconspicuous with the normal spoiler.

Problem with that, my work colleague who lives just down the road has one, a JDM, with a decat, induction kit, and 1.1bar. I used to give it a bit of a hammering with the WRX :(
It would be on the list though if circumstances were different..

To be honest mate to get what you are after (a fast practical car for lugging kit - sorry i missed that requirement) you wont do much better than what you have now. This budget simply doesnt lend itself towards prestige cars, and nothing else will be as fast.

The S2000 is a better car than the Impreza STI in my opinion, its much better to drive, is much more involving, has a much more exciting engine, but as you point out, ultimately isnt as fast, and wont carry your kit.

Virdict, keep the STI, you wont better it.
