Hi guys, I am new to overclocking but thanks to the advice here I have so far managed to overclock my cpu to 2200Mhz from the 2000Mhz it was originally.

Still trying to get my head around it all so I may well be able to improve that, you'll have to let me know :)

I have around £500.00 to spend on my machine and want to know the best way to spend it.

These are my machine specs so far

OS = Vista Home premium
CPU = Q9450 2.66 GHz
RAM = 2048 OZC DDR3 1333 Mhz
GPU = Nvidia 295 GTX
Motherboard = ASUS Premium P5E3 Premium
Sound card = XFI fatality
Power supply = 1000w Antec

I am trying to play Crysis warhead on at least x8 anti alias with all graphics set to "enthusiast" but it's not happening.

I'm torn between getting another 295 GTX or maybe a faster CPU or maybe you could suggest a better way to improve performance.
BTW, using the asus AI booster I reset the FSB from 233 to 269 and get the extra 200 Mhz speed. if I go above 271 it crashes. Is there any way to get better performance from the cpu or pc itself.
I have the PCI-E express and memory set to auto so they hopefully adjust in line with my fsb settings.

Thanks for any advise

Marv

LOL, making my own personal thread here. Just found an excellent review on using quad 295's so I know where I am with that :D

Is it worth me pursuing more cpu speed or am I pretty much at the limit of the cpu now?

Adding another GPU will not work as your board supports crossfire & not SLI.
Use the BIOS to overclock, don't do it through windows, your cpu should run at 2.66ghz, edit you have speed step enabled, which should raise to 2.66 when stressed.

Damn, thanks for that mate, didnt realise. That explains why it didnt work when i used 2 8800gtx's when I first built this.

I think everything you have there is fine, no need for an extra GFX.

Just OC as far as you can go, but a nice aftermarket cooler and you should get 3.4Ghz nicely.

If not, its probably because your mobo isnt great at clocking, then thats what i would invest your pennies in
