this thread is basically asking what card i can run on a 300W psu...

i spent last night putting my old amd stuff into a nice little case
and a matx mobo that i got off the bay

i wanted a small but capable pc for next to my tv

current specs are

AMD X2 4800+
generic asrock mobo
1gb corsair ddr2
old ide dvdrw
80gb sata hd for os

now im running it off onboard graphics
and the main storage is on my NAS
so its basically a media extender

its running on my hdtv from onboard graphics
at 1080i

im using a brand new 300W psu i got at work

i was thinking of putting in an older gpu [must be pci-e] - mainly as i want to faff around with it
but also to play a few old games i have

i was thinking of either
a 7 series nvidia
or a x1900 ati

basically something cheap and cheerful that will play stuff like halo/css on my big telly

hd2400pro
hd2600pro

that's what i'd be looking at

the 7 series were pretty power hungry

a gig more ram wouldn't go amiss

try second hand 8800gt for 40 quid.

at this settings
* Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 (3GHz)
* Asus P5E-N SLI (NVIDIA 650i chipset)
* 4GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2-1067 memory
* PC Power and Cooling 750W PSU
* Windows Vista Ultimate (32-bit)

yours should use even less + i woud ad 1 more gig of ram :)

as cheap as ram is i can add another gig -

i had an 8800gt before my current card

like i said - im not looking at something that plays everything maxed
i have a games pc

this one is for messing with really

i sold my 8800GT for £65 so i cant see them being much cheaper

i was only looking to spend around £20-£30 max

bledd - would the hd2600pro be alright on a 300w psu?

see i dont want to spend too much - thats why i was thinking of one of the x1900 series or something as that should be a bit cheaper on our mm

edited my post

-i don't know that much about them, i just HAD to get the 2600pro for mine as it needed a card that was really short (nb heatsink in the way) for my htpc

You can get a brand new 3650 on the bay for around £36 or try to pick up a 1950 pro or similar for the same price. If you want Nvidia you could probably get a 8600GT for around the same price.

i found some 1900 on bay for 18 quid but u have to bid for it i doubt u would need to pay more then 30 for it ;)

If its a media pc thats sitting near you TV mainly used for HD then it simply has to be a passively cooled HD3450.

Plus, they are cheap.
