What on earth is this strange afterimage thing?

I've had my monitor for about 2 years (or so) and have noticed recently a strange colour bleed from the edge of a window to the edge of the screen. To an extent it also happens within a page where a bright colour blends into a darker colour but it's tricky to get a decent image with my camera.

Here's what I see, it gets worse as I adjust the angle I look at the monitor

What I have noticed is that on my monitor this occurs but on my TV connected through HDMI there is no bleeding at all, so I'm assuming it is not graphics card related.

Any ideas? Is it the monitor? VGA lead? Interference from something perhaps?
Monitor is a Viewsonic VA2216W, not expensive but adequate for my simple needs.

Oh it's fine now :)

I just jiggled and tightened the VGA plugs at both ends and the after image seems to have vanished. I must have loosened the connector at the PC end when messing about with my soundcard inputs the other day.

Still not a great monitor but it works ok again now.
