What on earth is going on with graphics cards???

It's some time since I have needed to buy one. A few days ago the card in one of my PC's failed and I thought I would take a look at the 20 series.

It seems to be a total mess. Artifact errors. DLSS not working. Prices through the roof. New Super series that seems to be suffering shortages. I never seen NVIDIA in such a mess. What's with the prices of the new cards? I mean they are even worse now than a year ago. A 70 S can be £650. Are they completely crazy? That's more than I would normally pay for an 80. I would have expected to get a Ti for that only a few short years ago. And why are they called "super" and not Ti? Whatever. The mess really makes me think this is not the time to buy. I really do need a card right now but ... this is just chaos.

There's always AMD cards.....
Not that they don't have their own messes, but at least the 5700XT can be considered acceptable if nothing else.

The recommended card in the 2000 series line up for price/perf is the 2070 Super.

Or take a look at AMD.

Well I was going to get a 2070 S, but now the delivery dates are slipping. We are up to a pre-order of at least a month now so I am seriously thinking about just forgetting it.

The low end of the gpu market has essentially been killed off by APU's and integrated gfx. Now just "mid range" an up. Since GFX card sales have slowed down a fair bit looks like prices have gone up to compensate?

Only way to get a cheap relatively decent card is to go 2nd hand.

The bitmining world happened which skewed prices so only recently have things returned to normal. We've also had the iPhone X effect... £400 used to get you the flagship or second to best card in a line up but today, for Nvidia it's kind of dropped to getting you the lower of the high end range (2060s). Absolutely ridiculous, and AMD hasn't helped; the 5700/xt should have been £250/£300 respectively.

I am very happy with my FE vega 56 and I imagine that the 5700 is a great card for the price (from what I have read).

Not all the prices are through the roof. I have just ordered a RX570 for £99 for an ITX build and for that price it is a very capable GPU.

If only we could pay just £99 to be able to stick a RX570 into a laptop...that would be absolutely insane for gaming on the go :p

DLSS looked ok on my 4k TV, but on my 1440p monitor it looked like someone put vaseline on my monitor as a prank

that's the problem with buying laptops! I tend to get large PC cases but then I have the problem of not being able to play it in the living room etc.

Prices aren't too bad in the lower end, RX570 at £100 is a great card, RX590 at £180, GTX1660 at £199, 1660Ti @ £250 are all reasonably OK.

The mid-range has gotten insane though, normal for a card to now be £400-500.

There is always the 5700XT @ £375. Click the auto undervolt button and forget about everything else.

Was that from here ocuk, as the cheapest I can see is £109.99. I'm definitely not asking for competitors links though!
