what operating system to choose

my specs are 3ghz e8400 and 4 gb ddr2 800 ram just wondering what would be the os to choose.
bear in mind i do a lot of gaming with my 8800 gts 512 and also a bit of 3d modelling.
all help will be appreciated thanks.

Depends if you like Vista or would prefer to stick with XP.
I wouldn't recommend Linux for gaming so my vote goes to XP, although your graphics card can do DirectX10 so you may want to consider Vista.

I'd try Vista, some people have problems with it, some people just jump on the Anti-Vista Bandwagon for no reason.

It's your choice, either XP or Vista.

I'd personally choose Vista x64, just disable indexing, and possibly disable System Restore if you wish, and you could go further by disabling services you don't need, I did these to get extra speed.

Just bear in mind you'll need a 64bit OS if you want all your 4GB of ram.

I'd probably go for cheap copy of XP x64 OEM and see what happens when Windows 7 is released. Unless you really want to try Vista and/or can get it cheaper.
