lo,

I have a opteron 148 2.2 currently the cabbage version and it overclocks to about 2.7ghz. However im looking to build a second system and this chip would be going in the second one. I will be looking for a new cpu and wanted to stick with opteron ideally, dont really want to wait for conroe.

What opteron can you suggest?

It will be cooled via Zalman water cooler.
Using gskill 2gb ram
x1900xt 512mb.

Thanks.

BTW: Im looking to spend around 350 on cpu and mobo, maybe a little less.

Whatever you can recommend?

Ideally i wanted to stay away from DFI, the 2 ultra-d's ive had: both the chipset fans failed within a month, one came with a fault bios chip and nothing would boot.

However, if DFI is the best option then thats what ill go for.

My gfx card is a x1900xt 512mb pci-e, wont be running in crossfire.

Thank you very much for your help guys.

I dont think i will benifit from a dual core processor as the game i play doesnt support dual core and i doubt it will, also i cant really warrant spending 300 quid on a cpu when its for a second computer.

What else would you recommend?

Thanks again.

They are both gaming computers.

1 is more of a lan one. As you can imagine the zalman water cooler isnt really lanable, although i have done 2 with it. Its all jsut too much hassle.

So,

I was left with the option of getting a laptop, or a desktop; the desktop is the cheaper option and more beneficial.

I am going to use my current board, cpu, psu, gfx and put it into a lanboy case.

Then ive bought an x1900xt 512mb and need a board and cpu to go with it.

Dual core isnt made for cs:S yet so single core will be my option. I dont just want a cheap option, but i dont want a ridiculous one. I prefer amd64 also.

Should i jsut get another opteron 148 ?

What other operton cpu single core's can you recommend for good overclocking and value for money?

Thanks.

so what 144/146 would you recommend?

I just cant see the point in me getting the dual core if i cannot make use of it, and i wont be able to in the near future. As the game i play doesnt support it

I will keep the faster chip for the main PC.

Because it appears stable, and easy to overclock. ( This is what im asking for, what cpu should i get, bearing in mind the game i play does not support dual core so the single core running by itself will not run as fast as my current chip )

Im upgrading too pci-e. It would be handy to have a spare computer that i can use for lans etc. Dont want to sell my components for considerably less than what i bought them for.

I was going to buy a gaming laptop, so in theory im killing 2 birds with 1 stone and a grand to spare.

Ive had a look at the DFI boards and the pcie ones all seem to be setup for crossfire or sli. Dont they make them with just one gfx card slot?

What board would you now recommend getting?

Thanks again for your help.
