The PS3 came out here in 2007 and many of us have 1080p televisions or 1080p screens.
I have had a DVD RW (many different ones) since about 2003 as I could make my own copies of dvd films, PS2/XBOX homebrew and general data backup.
I found a very good offer on a bluray DVD ROM drive for a desktop PC online yet just think that I don't need one.
With the cheap prices of hard drives I have not needed a bluray drive to back up my data - I realise hard drive prices have just shot up but I paid just £55 for a Samsung F4 2TB two months ago. Perhaps with the speed of broadband now I download so much that blurays just aren't big enough compared to hard drives.

What optical drives do you use? - If you have multiple drives, vote for the best one that you have :).
(Not interested in DVD RAM, floppy drive etc :p).

EDIT: Thanks to whichever mod made the poll and added a few more options for me :).

I feel the same. Blur ray drives are cheap and worth it if,you wanna watch films from it. If however you want to back up I feel it's just not worth it. It'd the reason why I havnt bothered purchasing one yet.

The only point when I would purchase one is when I would have to download 40gb games but it's on blu ray instead... But I dnt think any games are on blu ray yet for pc.

I've got a DVD Writer combined with a blu ray player, btw whats the difference between a DVD RAM drive and DVD ROM drive?

Using an lg h20l hd - dvd/blu ray dvd rw combo drive. Never used hd dvd with it though. As power dvd 9 ultra doesnt support it, shame as hd dvd disks are cheap as chips now.

Got an old LG IDE DVD dual layer writer which lives in the drawer and gets pulled out 3 maybe 4 times a year. I use a USB to SATA/IDE thingy that also serves as a way to backup to external hard drives.

Got a samsung DVD-RW, would still be using my 5-ish year old dvd-rw if it was sata. Rarely use it though, with steam etc. most of what I buy is download only these days.

Have an oldish Lite-on DVD RW which I use fo burning, Did have PS3 in late 07 and played blu rays. Now have an Blu Ray ROM :) Oh and I have an DVD RW multi recorder on my laptop.

My rig has 2 Pioneer DVD-RW's, which is handy for on the fly burning.

I am thinking of getting rid of them both and having an external Bluray RW, as I think the case looks soo much better without them.
