Hi

Agreed to purchase a used car 07/07/18 16 plate £10.5k

Picked up car and completed deal on 26/07/18 immediately noticed new damage to the roof of the car looked like a bird had been pecking at it. Handed car back 27/07/18

Picked up again 04/08/18 dealer has had whole roof resprayed.

Got car home and noticed various other marks around the car chip damage to windscreen from the birds I think and a 50p size chip from the drivers wheel arch. Various other chips have also been uncovered as it seems tyre dressing has got everywhere and when I wash the car I remove it.

Informed dealer 08/08/18 car eventually left with dealer 19/08 for the whole drivers wing to be painted.

Went to pick up car today and they have tried to patch paint the wing which has left it fairly obvious where they have painted. TBH it looked better with the chip in the arch.

I have lost faith in the dealers ability to provide a satisfactory outcome and TBH am a bit fed up with the whole situation. Can anyone advise the best course of action? Can I ask for a suitable replacement car / refund?

TIA

John

Birds pecking at paint and windscreens? Is that a thing?!?

Sounds like you should have inspected it better before agreeing to buy it - the dealer has already done more than I would've expected them to.

Sorry let me be clear. Roof Damage was whilst in the dealers care before handover. So therefore nothing to do with a poor inspection.

if the "fixed" paintwork looks worse than the original Id be looking at rejecting it if theyre not willing to respray and blend panel where needed

I didn't understand -

a. Dealer acknowledged the roof was post inspection/hand-shake ? ... and proferred explanation
b. how come you did not wash&inspect fine tooth comb the car thoroughly with him 27th or 4th to identify the additional damage ? did he then accept it too, was also post-inspection.

otherwise could he say it has been repaired to a reasonable standard for a 2 year old car that might have a few chips.
is the manufacturers corrosion policy compromised ?

Hi

Agreed to buy car there was no Issue with roof.

3 weeks Later went for handover car was wet drove 5 mins away car dried and then noticed a lot of chips all over roof. With it being a dark car the most likely explanation was that crows had chipped at it,

Dealer agreed to repaint roof.

Your right I should have finetoothed then when I got it back but foolishly I did not.

Later it then became apparent there was some damage to the windscreen as well. It was at this point I started inspecting it panel by panel washing it because it seemed to be covered in excess tyre shine. which has hidden some chips.

The chip in the wheel arch is about the size of a 50p peice but it's not a chip and appears to have layers in it but no lacquer.

Dealer agreed to paint this as it does clearly breach the corrosion policy ie jetwashing would possibly have caused more damage.

The wing has now been patch painted but you can clearly see it under the laqueur its like a splodge a mess to be honest. I don't expect a 2 year old car to be perfect but I dont expect a painted wing to look terrible.

As it's an ongoing unresolved issue reported within 30 days i'm pretty sure your short term right to reject still applies & you are entitled to a refund.
