At work I'm using XP with VS2003, SQL2005 because we've some projects I need to work on that are in .Net 1.1 and VS2003 projects. At home I'm running Vista and while I like it, the generally sluggish UI is annoying and I have to run VS2005 and SQL Express SP2 etc. I also want to start working on some of the MS certifications. Should I stick with Vista an VS2005 at home, or drop back to XP and VS2003. Whaddy think, and what are you using?

I use XP and VS2003 and never have any problems. Granted, I don't do any heavy .net stuff. it's usually just editing stuff our devs have done. All our devs use XP though. A couple have tried Vista but went back to XP shortly after.

using Vista and VS 2008 as well as SQL2005 and have no issues regarding speed.

Sound like your computers not up to it so might be worth going back to XP or getting an Upgrade.

Laptop is up to spec. 2Ghz, Core 2 Duo, 2GB ram etc. Its just Vista never feels fast switching if your constantly switching between XP and Vista. I'm currently running Vista 64. Was running Vista 32 for the last 9 months or so. I tried Server 2008 yesterday and its far faster than Vista. Better than XP even. Unfortunately I couldn't get a driver that work with my laptops 7900gs in the proper widescreen resolutions. 1920x1200 or 1440x900 etc. I might try again using powerstrip.

Then again I could try a Mac

I've only just started with .NET and I am running Visual Studio 2008 under Vista x64 and it feels very quick.

Vista x64 + VS2008 at home... XP x64 + VS2008 at work.

VS on Vista with the DWM is just so fast. No more slow redrawing of the IDE...

tried both Vista 64 bit & XP 32 bit both fine, vista machine is a fair bit quicker due to it being daul core though :)

Vista 32/VS2005/SQL2005 here. Would prefer vista64, but our app uses Chilkat for encryption and it doesn't work on 64 bit :(

Looking forward to using VS2008 and LINQ to SQL :D
