what OS for pitifull laptop ?

my current laptop is off getting repaired. The one im using now is on 98 se, has a 700mhz celeron 1 and 112mb of ram. Cant find the ram sockets (samsung vm8000) so i assume you have to take it to pieces to get to them. I downloaded ubuntu but for some reason the computer doesnt detect the cd is in there (burnt iso to cd using windows vista mastered option). And ubuntu needs 256mb of ram to run.

All i need to do is browse the web, inc facebook. Currently firefox 1 is only accepted which wont work with facebook, opera latest does work but theres about 2 minutes of lag every time you click something. Its getting worse and worse to the point where i have to reboot every 5 mins, like when i click post new thread when im done typing this!!!

The CD has to be set to first in the boot order, in the BIOS. Usually, the hard disk is set to boot first.

Debian also runs well on machines with meagre resources. I've just put it on an old Powermac G4 graphite running at 400Mhz. Runs great and only uses 60MB of RAM!

I'd go for Debian or Arch. Xmonad is good.

slitaz is highly recommended by my flatmate. He went through an obsessive phase of trying out light weight Linux distributions.

You'll need a very lightweight distro with that amount of RAM.
