What other photography forums?

The FredMiranda forums are generally very good (well, the Landscape subforum which I read most is, I assume the others are similar), if a little US-centric.

1x.com forums are rather good, there's a good critique section plus the standard of photography is very high. Even my best shots keep getting rejected for their gallery. Ah well, it's a challenge. :)

Also I agree about TP, the amount of praise mediocre or downright horrid shots get makes me a sad panda, although the marketplace is good for picking up a bargain or two.

An infamous imageboard's photo forum is sometimes quite good, although there's a lot of crap to sift through. Anons give brutal critique at times.

I only really come on here and visit TP regularly, although i tend to stick to the film sections. APUG often comes up on searches and seems to have good answers, not really in the market for another time waster though to be honest :p

Then someone who knows what they are talking about will come along, tell them that they aren't great, tell them why they aren't and how to improve - then said person gets slated for not being supportive.

That happened to me on there :( I actually had something constructive to say for once, and some rather nasty piece of work randomly decided to round a personal attack against me. I wouldn't mind but their photos aren't much better than an absolute beginner. I was sad because for once I knew an answer :(

Oh, and the three forums you mention are the ones I look at. There are others I look at now and then, but generally that's only because they pop up when I'm searching google for something.

Cheers for the input all round guys, I'll check out whats been suggested - I just feel like looking at more work for more inspiration with different people and styles :)

I'll always have a special place for you all tho :p :D

I wasn't being bigheaded about it. My point was that you would get (and quite rightly so) a newbie to photography post some images. And instead of people getting critique to help them you'll get a stream of people going "wow nice work! keep it up!" or "great set"

Then someone who knows what they are talking about will come along, tell them that they aren't great, tell them why they aren't and how to improve - then said person gets slated for not being supportive.

It also leads to the OP of said set being err...mislead, so he then starts commenting on others photos when he has no idea what he's talking about then defends his points to the death when hes 100% wrong :p

So yeah, I've stopped posting on there :p

Don't get me wrong, there is good work on there and people who know what they are talking about, but that's about 5% of the population that browse it :)

Thought I hadn't seen you post on there in a while!

Your right, lots of new people who are too scared and too polite to say if something is ****. But I don't care, I say it as it is and I've been lucky not to get any negativity for it.

I am one of those that can talk photography, but really need to put more effort in to translating knowledge in to action ;)

I agree with GTRacer: 1x.com ( http://1x.com/ ) has incredibly high standard photography on it, but I haven't been on it enough to gage an opinion on the community just yet. It's definitely worth a look for some jaw-dropping awe and inspiration! :)
