What Paint do you use

For ceiling whites I've used Johnstone's Trade paint - cost effective, easy to use and I've no complaints.

Anything that is made for the trade. 'Consumer' paints are rubbish - just like everything else.

I will be using Zinsser Perma White when I do mine, used it in my bathroom and it is fantastic stuff - goes on nice and far, really white, hides a lot of imperfections.

I use Armstead Trade Matt White paint, has been brilliant at covering some really tricky walls (Hideous colours the previous owners had). It is quite thick and covers well.

I like to use Leyland Trade Vinyl Matt. Covers well and is widely available. Being a vinyl paint it is wipeable without the paint coming off. Never used Dulux Trade Super Matt as I could never justify to myself the cost increase over the Leyland. Looking now the prices seem to have converged: £36 vs £30 for 10L.

Whatever paint you use I advise washing the ceiling with Sugar Soap before painting. Being in a kitchen the ceiling is likely to have greasy residues from cooking vapour.

Just noticed your posting date. I guess you're already finished! Hope it went well :)

I will tell you probably the best white matt paint there is available, painted my entire 4 bedroom house in it, ceilings included.

It's Dulux Light & Space, it has metal in it and it's a proper white (not the Student Hall's of residence white, but more Daz white). Don't get the consumer one as it's apparently not so good, I used the trade one. The trade one is apparently 7 times more durable then normal Matt paint, it's water resistant and you can also scrub marks off it, it's also suitable for schools and airports.

Then on top if this, I painted all my doors, skirting in Dulux trade gloss paint also. It did need quite a few coats, but to keep cost down I used Wickes matt brilliant white as an undercoat first, then putting the Light & Space on top once dry.

if you want durability, I painted one of our rooms in Dulux Endurance II (timeless white). The walls are like bloody concrete. Great for scrubbing marks off made by the kids. I honestly don't think you can take the paint off lol

Yeah 2 coats of the Dulux Endurance stuff is pretty durable - even has a bit of a cement like texture to feel to it heh.
