right Im wanting to spray my case for my server matt-black, now what would you suggest to go about doing this, Ive talked to a few people and they think I wouldnt need to sand it ? so any suggestions on what type of paint to use ? (I do have a paint spray/air brush (whatever you call it for cars ) at hand) :)

personally i would always sand it makes for a smoother finish and then there is no chance that some time in the future it flicks off or anything ive heard in some cases there is no need btu i dnt like to push my luck personally paint can eb expensive

If its painted already and in good condition then i think keying it would be sufficient, ive sprayed a few in the past i just used car spray paint from halfrauds

I use plasti-kote which is available at most DIY stores, a few light layers of primer (until covered) on a lightly sanded base followed by a number of light coats of the colour.

I have read some guys sanding between layers but I found the finish ok without that. Just sanding the metal before the primer layer.

Hey guys, I've dug up this ancient thread so I didn't have to make a new one, but I'm planning on painting the top grill of my Shinobi white, and also the fans, which are currently black. Has anyone got any recommendations for paint? I'm only looking for white, but don't know anything about primer etc...

I don't know whether I can actually link to this as it's on Amazon, but this paint here says it sprays directly onto plastic eliminating the need for primer, so I guess this would be good? I don't know how it would fare spraying my grill though...

I've always just used acrylic car paint. It's a lot cheaper than that stuff if you get it from ebay. I've found Halfords stuff to be pretty good. Also Simmoniz is also good and comes in a bigger tin.

Certain plastics wont take paint though, so probably a good idea to check a small unseen area first. I have painted a few plastic cases and have never had a problem but I have heard of people having problems with it. Also if it is already painted you may need to remove the existing paint as it can react with the current paint and it will crinkle up. If its not painted then give it a good keying with some fine wet and dry then give it a wipe down with some white spirit to remove any silicone oil that might be present.
