Hi this is my first post , so be gentle ...
My son is looking to upgrade parts of his gaming pc
It was a budget build originally but performed really well for his needs
As it stands it has
Intel dq77mk Mobo
I7 3770 ( non k )
16gb Kingston ddr 3 ( 4x4gb )
Gtx 1060 6gb
2 x Msi 241c curved 144hz monitors
He has upgraded all his peripherals , Mouse keyboards etc ...
He only games 1080p no 4K interest
Plays gta / cs go / ark /
Was thinking to just upgrade gpu and maybe motherboard but in all honesty I have limited knowledge ..
I’ve looked around as much as I can and am now befuddled as to which or what to upgrade as from what I’ve read there are so many options and conflicting reports
Any and all help greatly appreciated

You'd really need to replace the motherboard/ram/cpu, it's pretty much the only worthwhile upgrade.

What power supply is in there specifically? Brand/model/wattage

As above you'd not really gain much without a full system. You can't even drop a K chip in that motherboard and overclock it. You could drop in a better GPU which would help, but you may end up being CPU restricted at 1080p.

Hi thanks for the reply
I am not sure of the brand but it is 500 watts , and yes that’s what I’m concerned about as it’s an old cpu and Mobo although it has served very well ,

What would the best way to go in your opinion
My son thinks to upgrade gpu foremostly
And I’m inclined to follow as it’s not money wasted because it will go into the new build if it doesn’t suffice enough improvement
Or should we rebuild with a more recent motherboard and improve the cpu / ram etc first ?
Is that more likely to reap better results

GPU upgrade, depends on your budget but the 1660 Super is looking like a really strong 1080p card for the value at this point. It would be a good card to carry forward with a CPU upgrade in future too.

That one has passed me by
Price wise I was looking at 1080 or even rtx 2060 but not sure of the full benefits of either at 1080p

I wouldn't go any higher end than a 1660S on an old 3770, if you're thinking about going higher end you really should upgrade the rest of your components. The 1060 currently in your sons system is already very well matched to the rest of the hardware.

I'd also highly recommend finding out what exact PSU you have, as that may well need to be replaced ontop.

So replace the poorest parts first you recommend ? I suppose it makes the most logical sense rather than chucking a fat gpu in and expecting to old cpu to keep up

The 1060 is still a respectable GPU for 1080p, it's about on par with an RX580 which is still a popular mid range gpu.

Your best bet is to check on your PSU, it's the most important component in a computer and a poor one can cause serious damage to the rest of your rig.

After that get something along these lines:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £365.93 (includes shipping: £0.00)

Like @Gray2233 has mentioned, Check the PSU as it's crucial to have a solid unit... Then get the MOTHERBOARD/CPU/RAM above
Thankyou very much guys ,
Greatly appreciated
I think that’s the way we will go then
An added bonus that we get to build a new one from scratch ... cheers
