What paste for de-lidded cpu

Just bought a i5 4790k from the mm that has been lapped and de-lidded.
As I have NO experience with this I just want to put some thermal paste on it and forget about it.

Would MX4 paste be suitable as I already have some and I won't be overclocking at first, may not even bother tbh.

Just watched a couple of vids on YT showing to just put it on the "big shiny bit" and not on the row of "little parts" that run alongside.

All help appreciated.

Don't think I'm going to glue the spreader back on either unless there is a good reason to do so.

For the best temp drops you want either of these between the cpu die and IHS. Make sure you put some nail varnish or something similar over the row of transistors down one side of the cpu's pcb as the liquid tim is extremely conductive. I have the liquid Ultra on mine and then stuck the IHS back down using black gasket sealant.

You then use whatever choice you like between the IHS and cooler. I use this on mine but your MX-4 will do the job.

You can use the liquid tim between the IHS and cooler but it's not advised as it will stain/scratch the IHS and do even worse to the base of the cooler.

I just put noctua NT-H1 that I already had above and below the IHS cause I didn't want to pay for liquid metal nor did I want to wait for it to arrive. Dropped temps massively compared to stock and I never got close to overheating so haven't bothered changing.
