VLC and Windows built in media player seem to be struggling with 4K rips which are around 60GB in size.

Anyone recommend a free player that can handle them? Guessing need something with hardware acceleration?

I've always used windows media player classic and a the k-lite codec pack. worked for everything for like the last 10 years or so :D 4k runs fine, no stuttering etc

PotPlayer for me by miles. Much better than VLC, doesn't need extra codecs (though will offer to install some for you, which only PotPlayer uses (doesn't take over the system) and they work well) and has zillions of options but just works as it should out of the box and it's lightning quick. It's hard to fault - I really can't find any at all, it's brilliant.
