Hi as title says i have a 290x MSI gaming 1030/1250 and i have an [email protected], i get around 60fps on high with certain items off but even on low i get stutter!
It's just not smooth i have 120hz monitor i have tried without V-sync and with and capping frames just isn't smooth.
I heard new drivers are coming out so perhaps that will help, i know some people are saying its smooth, anyone else get micro stutter?
Thanks in advance.

If your running an AMD card, probably best turn off Hair Works completely. At least until a driver comes out for the game.

Is your game running form the SSD? I have a feeling it makes a difference.

Are you playing borderless window? If so try fullscreen, it feels much smoother to me.

In terms of FPS, all ultra except shadows and foliage distance (hairworks off), I get 60 while exploring in the wild, but drops down to 40-50 in villages and even 30 in the large cities when there are lots of NPCs.

EDIT: Also like opethdisciple mentioned, I am running off the SSD. There's lots of streaming going on to make the world seamless so it might be your HDD loading stuff as you move around.

Hi yeah im running from an SSD and Hairworks is off in the menu or is there a disable function?

Is the OS on the same SSD as the game? You may have problems when the swap file is accessed same time as the game loads stuff in.

For Hairworks turn the tesselation level down to 8X or 16X in Catalyst Control Centre.

Exactly the same thing here on my Asus 290x. Crazy high fps if I put everything down to medium, hairworks off (over 100 fps) but unbearable stuttering. Not smooth at all like you say.

Game is running off my 2nd SSD for games. I have just put it down to AMD drivers as other games are fine.

Yeah im hoping on the drivers will solve this for me i mean GTA V is fine no stutter just this game

Ok thankyou both will give them ideas a try also OS and game is on same SSD

The game does a lot of streaming to load data so possibility of stuttering when the windows swap file is accessed at the same time. Try moving the game or the swap file to a different drive.

I play on a 780 and have suffered from low framerates. I did some digging and found out that the APEX_ClothingGPU_x64.dll thats shipped with the game causes 10-15% fps penalty in some areas during certain events. I then removed it and the game runs perfectly fine without it and ive gained a good deal of extra performance. Now ofcourse this may not affect any of you since you are using AMD hardware, but then again it just might. Perhaps some bad calls here and there could cause stutter? i dont know.

I know that you can actually remove all the Physx,Apex, GFSDK files and the NVhair files as long as you leave "PhysX3Common_x64.dll" & GFSDK_SSAO.win64.dll alone and have hairworks turned completely off(game will crash othewise) and everything works fine. There are still some performance issues but everything is actually a bit better.. Perhaps some of it will work for you AMD users as well? just remember if you experiment with this to backup any files you remove.

UPDATE/EDIT: I just for kicks and lols threw in an old old 5850 from 2009 and was able to hit between 25 and 30 fps on low settings 1080p.. thats pretty impressive for such an old relic. Had no microstutter at all. But then again i run without the above mentioned files.

290 here i also get stuttering fullscreen mode mix of high ultra most obvious when you pan the camera slowly
Yeah hopefully drivers will help, after the suggestions here i still get stuttering :( oh well GTA V until its improved

OP does your stuttering look like this?

This is very similar to what I am getting. Guy in the video is on a 7970. I have done just about everything to get this game running smoothly but it still stutters. So it must be drivers!!:(

don't think I'm getting stuttering like that - maybe occasional but nothing like that

290 @ 1080/1400 - Ultra everything except foliage, and hairworks off

FSAA off in game - but forced in Catalyst Superampling 8xEQ

Yeah similar to that, its minor micro stutter then every say 10 secs a big stutter

Everything is fine if I stand still. No obvious stuttering going on, even if I move the mouse around it's all smooth while not moving the character. It's when I'm walking or running about that it stutters horrendously. Does this suggest a loading issue perhaps?

I have a crucial M4 as OS drive and MX100 512gb as 2nd drive for games. I would've thought running off SSD would load things fast enough. I notice OP has an M4 SSD also.

I feel like I have exhausted all possible causes (overclock on/off, HPET on/off, 15.4 drivers, omega drivers, sound card disabled, page file on/off, checked DPC latency, SSD's are AHCI mode, process high priority, latest SSD firmware, BIOS, etc etc).

Still don't understand how others on AMD are running it smoothly. Tell me your secret!!
