hi

i currently have 2gb of corsair ddr2 6400 c4 memory with my c2d 6400 overclocked to 3.2gig and was looking to change it to a PC2-8500 1066MHz kit. and want to know if i will benifit from upgrading.

thanks

No you won't benefit much from the upgrade at all.

Your current setting is perfect as it is - 3.2Ghz 400FSB*8 so the RAM is running sync with the FSB at its full speed DDR2 800. The new kit may allow you to run RAM faster than the FSB but the performance increase is something that you will only notice in benchmarks.

Not really tbh.

The pc6400 won't hold back your e6400 overclock, so upgrading to pc8500 is pretty pointless unless you run benchmarks for a living.

well at the moment my memory is running at 1-1 400mhz i think and can only go up to 425mhz then i get errors at boot. but if i upgraded it to 1066mhz stuff the divider would be higher at stock so would i be able to go lower with the divider and get more out the cpu.

CAS4 pc6400 Corsair XMS2 should do better than 850mhz.

Are you giving it 2.1v? And have you tried relaxing the timings to 5-5-5-15?

yea its on 2.1v but the timings are set to 4,4,4,12 i will try 5,5,5,15 when i get a chance.

so its not worth changing my ram if it runs fine at 3.2

thanks for your help cob
