I'm looking to buy a polarising filter for my Sony a77 kit lens. My shortlist is the Kood (£28.99), the Cokin P164 at £47 and the Hoya HD Pro at £68.

Anyone have any experience with these? I dont really want to spend loads on a filter that has no difference to the cheaper ones. I like the Cokin style adapter system as if I buy more lens in the future i can easily and cheaper buy more adapter rings.

Ah Found a Hoya 72mm Pro-1 Digital Circular for £43. I think thats the right one?

Look through my first link above.

The better rated 72mm Marumi CPL can be had from Microglobe for £44 delivered.

Go for that one not just Hoya for the sake of it being a Hoya ;)

Not sure what you mean.

I use it on my Tamron 17-50mm with a Kood 77mm-67mm reducer ring and it works fine.

Possibly.

Even so he should get a CPL, very handy being able to rotate them, that's the whole point :D

Yeah i was thinking fitting the filter into a Cokin holder P series.

Bah, get a CPL for having fun with polarising, then use the Cokin kit for your ND filters and grads.

It's soo handy having a CPL as it's very quick and simple to turn it around and get the exact polarisation required for the shot. It would be a pain to mess around with a Cokin holder.

Nice one.

It's great to keep on your lens, both for the excellent polaristation and also as something to protect your glass. No need to worry about a silly UV Filter.

Remember the effect is greatest when you're at 90 Degrees to the Sun, so looking towards or directly away from it will reduce the effect greatly.
