HI,

OK I seem to be getting conflicting opinions from a couple of sources regarding power connection requirements of the ATI 4850 and ATI 4870 graphics cards?

Can anyone clear up what model they have and what conector and PSU they use?

Also is there a better model to go for, I have to say I am tempted by the HIS variants but I require a six pin connection as I don't want to change my PSU at this time.
On that note would an Intel E2180 with a Gigabyte GA-P31-DS3L mobo bottle neck the 4850?

Ta

ok i tried to read what you wrote but it was to hard as im so drunk as it is friday 4850 uses 1pin connector if m wright and 4870 two 6 pin connectors;)

The 4850 uses 1x6pin connector IIRC and the 4870 uses 2x6pin connectors. ;)

Fixed.. ;)

:D LOL, liked the re-spelling..

What about the HIS models? is the HIS 4850 a single six pin connection?

Which is the best 4850 to go for if using a Gigabyte GA-P31/Intel E2180 set up?

I have a Sapphire 4870 running off a SeaSonic 500W Model and its fine with a standard-ish hardware setup.

Frustratingly you need to use the supplied converters to get the card up and running and cannot plug directly into the 2 spare 6 pin sockets on the PSU.

Huh? If you have 2 spare 6 pin PCIe plugs on your PSU then you should use those. I have no idea why you think you have to use the converters.

Yep just use the PSU ones. I didn't need the cables that came with the GTX or this one as the Corsair had them already

Would a Seasonic 430W run these ok?

I used to have an 8800GT which ran fine on my seasonic, unsure about the new 4800's tho.

I have an E2160 at 3ghz, much of a bottleneck?
