what power connectors needed?

i think i might have a bit of a prob powering the new point of view 280gtx 1024 card i have just bought. it hasnt arrived yet, and i i know my psu is capable of powering it, but o poking around my case i am not sure i have the right size power connectors for it! looking at the card specs, it requires a 6 pin and an 8 pin molex connector from the psu. after poking around inside my case i have 1 6 pin connector but not an 8! i see that the card comes with adapters for the different sizes to be combined into an 8, but what connectors does it need?
my psu has the following connectors free when i checked
6 of 4 pin
2 of little mini 4 pin
1 small white 3 pin
1 of 6 pin

i am hoping that logically the 8 pin adaptor that comes in the box plugs into 2 of the 4 pin plugs i have (makes sense to me!)
does anyone know if this is correct or am i going to receive a gpu i cant power?

The 8x Pin adapter may connect to your 6x Pin, but that shouldn't matter if it does, as you should also get a 6x Pin adapter in the box which connects to 2x 4x Pin molex's.

Depends on the brand as to what adapters etc... you will receive though i think.

so does that mean i need 2x 6pin molexs to plug into the adapter for the 8 pin socket, and 2x 4pins to plug into the 6 pin socket? i thought that my single 6 pin would go into the 6 socket and the 2x fours would go via adapter to the 8 pin?
the card i have ordered is the point of view assasins creed bundle from ocuk, i just hope i have sufficient connectors or i have wasted money.

thanks for the info! is the picture from the point of view card i have ordered?
so to get this straight b4 i panic, i use my single 6pin to power the 8socket via the adapter that comes IN THE BOX (no 2nd one needed for the 8 socket), then i use the other boxed adapter to convert two of my 4 pins into a six to plug into the cards 6 pin socket, whew!

Yeah thats right, but im not sure what adapters you would get with the POV card (if any), but hopefully someone who's got the POV one can let you know what you do get with that one.

That pic was taken from another shop (which i obviously can't link to as its a competitor).

Pic from a review of the POV card showing the contents, looks like 2 6x Pins needed for the 8x Pin, hopefully someone can confirm though.

Okay, what PSU do you actually have?

You need a 6-pin and an 8-pin PCI-e cable to power the GTX280.

My old Tagan just had 2 x 6-pin PCI-e cables so I just sold it and bought a Tagan modular jobby. I hear the use of the adapters is not really recommended to be honest but it works I guess. :P

i have a generic 550w psu that came fitted with my tower. printed on it is HEC 550TD PTE. i have done some research into my new card today and read that a gtx280 will work with a min psu of 550w, but requires a 40amp supply. is this true? mine is marked saying 30amp, so i guess i will need a new psu correct?

but that psu is for 520w, the gtx280 needs a min of 550. what i wanted to know is if my current psu has the correct ampage for the new card which i found online to need 40a. my current psu has 3 12v rails, and on the side of the unit the listed amps run 30A 38A 18A 17A .3A and 2A. does this mean that my current psu supplies sufficient power? i have no idea how to work it out.

That 520w PSU will power it fine, your current PSU may say its got enough to power it, but i wouldn't trust it, generic ones are not good quality and always over estimate the rails, it could actually be less than what the sticker says, so id get a decent quality PSU to be on the safe side, as if that ones not up to the job and it blows, then it could probably take your whole rig with it, where as a decent quality PSU will only take itself out if it blows, its not worth the risk.
