Now the case I have has a 450 watt PSU in. I have to say i've never paid much attention to them before but I just wanted to check that this would be sufficient to run this lot?

Thanks for your help guys!

What model is the 450W PSU? If it's older/low quality you might find a problem with a lack of amps on your 12v rail(s) when powering the 8800GT. In terms of wattage 450W is probably enough but most people would recommend higher.

I have no idea to be honest. It came with the case which i got from here.

Apologies for the ignorance but what are 12v rails and how woudl i know there is a problem with them?

if you look on the side of the psu there shoul dbe a sticker and somewer eon that it will say 12v and then another number im amps say 18ams 20amps someting like that.

basically the 12v is the paim power wire from that psu that runs the gfx hdd disc drives etc. a lot of lower quality psu tend not to be very high there and thats not problem unless you have high end componenets then basically the pc may not be or you could get random crashes.

as a general rule the psus that come with cases are cheap ones.

it may say the brand of the psu on the sticker also.

As mentioned check the information on the side of the PSU. Since it was bundled with a case it's more likely to not be up to scratch. IIRC, you need at least 26amps on your 12v rail for an 8800GT. If there are multiple rails the total amps needs to be (approximately) 26 or higher.

Edit: Sorry, 26 not 28 I think.

What would be an acceptable figure for the amps concidering the hardware i am buying? I'm hopeful i wont have to change as the expence of a new PSU isnt something i can really afford.

Just saw the recommended amps on the leadtek website and it says 400 watt 26 amps! Thats a fair amount so expect i would indeed need a new PSU so i'll get looking!

Does anyone know if most psu's are standard? My psu goes on the bottom of the case and i know its not a typical case but from what i've seen overlcockers dont sell any components thats non standard? The case was from overclockers but i cant for the life of me remeber the name. It ws dubbed as a silent case and had a few fans in to help with cooling.

I honestly cant remember the name. I know it probably isnt helpful but its a tower which has a removable plastic base which the case sits on, its silver with an opening door at the top hiding the CD drives. There is a thick black line that runs up from he botoom of the case and a silver power button is on this line. OcKUK used to sell them an there was 2 different designs of this case but they had the same psu and the same internal design, just the front looked different.... damn, its bugging the hell out of me now! :)
