Ello everybody,

i was recently looking at buying a card reader and found a suitable Sandisk one for around £16. But then i thought to myself i could spend another £20-30 and get a half decent all-in-one printer unit that also reads flash cards!

Has anyone got any recommendations on any all-in-ones in the region of £50?? I thought the Lexmark P4350 looks pretty good

Cheers

Hi,

Personally I wouldn't buy a Lexmark, not only because personally I don't like the build quality but because they're so lazy with Linux support. HP are much nicer rigs, very economical to run, and also 100% supportive of OSS :)

I bought a PhotoSmart 8250 a year or so ago and despite heavyish use have only replaced two of the six cartridges at a cost of £5 each. It has a built in flash card reader, LCD screen etc, but is possibly just above your budget.

However, that said, at the moment Tesco are doing a HP PhotoSmart some-model-or-other which has a built in scanner too, for around £50. It's a good investment imho as they last a long time, perform well and are cheap to run.

Just have a shop around, maybe you'd find one even cheaper online. Just don't get one without a scanner included as you'll pretty much always find an uprated model somewhere else including a scanner for the same price. That's what I did - bought this 8250 "on sale" for £99 and found the model up (same thing but with a scanner) for £60 the day after - doh!

Happy hunting :D
