What Processor ?

Then he can get a brand new 3570K or Xeon for around the same price.

The only second hand parts I'd buy are CPU's tbh.

But I've never bought one for myself.

and here we go.......:D

latest most upto date games i5s are ten percent quicker on average than any amd cpus available.

only reason to buy amd is budget. everything else intel. please continue argument without me thanks.

I have to say, it's good to see a bit of AMD vs Intel again. Makes me feel all nostalgic.

200 FPS limiter in BF3 disagrees with you.

But then 131 FPS minimum was always a crap amount and Intel could do so much better, even on an unlocked derpy derp one.

LOL.

Yeah I guess if he could re-use his current mobo then it's a no brainer.

Sometimes though people think MM or the bay are instant, I had to fish around for weeks to get a 6850/7770 that was sensibly priced as a lot of sellers were getting near retail and in some cases over retail price!

Dg hasnt been involved in the last twenty threads where this applied. We were still getting "i5" recommendations when people had budgets of £300 to spend (for more than just a CPU/mobo).

Like a parrot I will repeat:
Budget builds upto £500 AMD is a good choice!

If you can go beyond this then I am in agreeance that intel offerings are better.

Back OT, this statement is typical chef material:

You'd need medical help if you bought the AMD

Get the 3570K or Xeon if you can source one. There is also nothing wrong with selling his current mobo and exploring the FX8 options.

*points to neutral hat

Not a lie though, the FX9's are never really worth the excess.

Totally agree.

If you're buying an AMD 8 core, you get the 8320. Enough said.

From what I've been seeing lately? they're exactly the same CPUs. In fact, my suicide run was higher than any I've seen on my 8320.

Buying a Centurion only really guarantees you 5ghz. Otherwise? you're looking 4.6-5ghz depending on luck. The more expensive 9xxx chips are for collectors or people who don't think they are capable of clocking an 8xxx themselves.

I completely agree with this.

If you have the MOBO, go with the 3570k IMO.

For people saying stuff about dead sockets. To be honest, i feel that people with a 3570k will not need to upgrade to the 1150 socket. By the time performance is lacking in your 3570k, there will be new socket available, so i wouldn't worry about it being out dated as performance wise, it really isn't.

With DDR4 becoming available in 2014 on Haswell-e boards, i doubt there will be more than another two generations on 1150 boards because Intel will push to release a DDR4 non 'E' socket shortly after Haswell-e and a 3570k would surely be able to last that long even if you kept it at stock speeds.
